Access Instructions for PDF E-books with Embedded Multimedia
This e-book has been marked up to be accessible to screen readers, and to be completely accessible from the keyboard alone. If you are using a screen reader, the following instructions apply identically to both JAWS and Window-Eyes, with any exceptions clearly identified.
Reading This E-book
For convenience for both sighted and blind/visually impaired users, the table of contents has been placed in Adobe Reader's navigation pane. To toggle between the navigation pane and the document pane, press F6. To move from item to item in the table of contents in the navigation pane, press the up and down arrow keys. To select an item from the table of contents, press the Enter key. Selecting an item from the navigation pane will automatically shift the focus to the appropriate spot in the document pane. To return to the navigation pane and the table of contents, press the F6 key.
Playing the Movie Clips
There are four movie clips in this e-book, each containing captions and extended audio descriptions. You can access the clips in one of two ways: using the Tab key, or using the table of contents. If you are using a screen reader and you focus on a clip using the Tab key, the clip's title as well as instructions for controling the clip will be announced by your screen reader. If you select the clip from the table of contents, the focus will move to the clip's position in the document and the clip will begin playing automatically.
Here is a list of keyboard commands for controlling the movies.
- play upon initial focus: Enter
- pause/play: P
- stop and go back to the beginning: Esc
- fast-forward: right arrow (Window-Eyes users); Ins+3, then right arrow (JAWS users)
- rewind: left arrow (Window-Eyes users); Ins+3, then left arrow (JAWS users)
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to use the Tab key to move the focus off of a movie, you must first press the Esc key.
