Objectives

eDescriptions will be designed to communicate:

• visual information including both labels and elaborative details.
• an emphasis on the important concepts and elements.
• explicit statements of what is often implicit information — causal connections or associations.

Components

Extended description will:

• fully describe objects and actions
• identify transitions in place and time
• reinforce names and describe characters
• use precise vocabulary to label key visuals which sighted students are seeing
• describe salient features of scene action
• present key features of scene action before the action takes place

Enhanced description will focus on:

• context and increasing background knowledge
• explanation of concepts
• relationships among characters
• discrimination of subtlety and nuance
• non-verbal communication
