Teacher Information

The eDescription project is seeking teachers and students to help us evaluate short eDescription prototypes. If you are a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and/or an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the New England area and you have students between the ages 8 to 11 years old, please consider working with us on this exciting project.

If you are interested, we ask that you complete a student screening form and a parental consent form for each student who you feel might be appropriate for the study. The completed form will provide a set of demographic and achievement information on those candidates.

We are looking for students with the following profile:

  1. are between the ages of 8 and 11.
  2. live in the New England area.
  3. have varying degrees of visual impairment.
  4. do not have disabilities, which affect comprehension and/or verbal communication.
  5. are performing at grade level in language arts.
  6. have mastery of expressive language.

Clearly, a wide range of students could benefit from eDescription. However, the research model requires that participating students have a good understanding of word meanings and reference systems. Performance in math and science, however, will not be taken into account. Students should be able to communicate fully and easily since their responses to questions will affect the outcome of the project.

From the assessment, we will identify and contact a set of potential teacher/ student pairs. View Participation in Research page for further details on requirements and total time involved.
