Welcome to the Internet Captioning Forum

AOL, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! have joined together to form the Internet Caption Forum. The forum's goal is to overcome the technical and production challenges of providing captions on large video aggregation Web sites.

Content on these sites can be unique to one site, or available from multiple sites, and is gathered from every possible source, including repurposed television content, original web content and user-generated content. The media platform (player) varies by site as well, with content appearing through an aggregator's media player or on the media player located on the content owner's site.

All of these variations create an enormous challenge to the successful implementation of captions on large video aggregation Web sites. The ICF will together work on solving the technical and production issues that have so far limited the amount of online video captioning.

The Internet Caption Forum is being managed by the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media at WGBH (NCAM), a leader in Media Access technology research and innovation.
