Access to Locally Televised On-Screen Information
Simulation of Accessible On-Screen Information
Project Home | Detailed Overview | Staff
NCAM has created a 15-second QuickTime clip that contains program video, program audio, captions and three tracks of audio that simulate how on-screen information might be translated using text-to-speech software and added to the broadcast stream before being filtered by the consumer. In this simulation, you can select which tracks you want, or do not want, to see or hear.
To view the movie, you will need the QuickTime Player. You must upgrade to QuickTime Pro or use NCAM's free utility, QTracker. Details are listed below.
- Download the simulation. It contains the following tracks, all of which are open-- that is, you will see and hear all tracks simultaneously:
- program video
- program audio
- captions
- audio representation of on-screen stock information
- audio representation of on-screen school closings
- audio representation of on-screen time and temperature
- If you have QuickTime Pro, you can control, or filter, which tracks are visible and audible by opening the Movie Properties window (Window/Show Movie Properties or press Apple+J or Ctrl+J). Toggle the tracks on and off by checking or unchecking the boxes.
- If you do not have QuickTime Pro, download and install NCAM's free utility, QTracker (Windows only). Open the movie from within QTracker and toggle the tracks on and off from the Tracks List window.
NCAM wishes to thank project partner WCVB for granting permission to use the footage in this clip.
