Live-display Captioning

Another method of captioning live events is known as live-display captioning. This method is most useful when a script for a live event is available prior to broadcast. A caption writer or stenographer transcribes the text into a PC before the program is scheduled to air and, at the time of broadcast, manually sends the text line by line, displaying the captions in a manner identical to real-time captions. If there are last-minute changes to the script, or if there is excessive ad libbing, it is necessary to immediately switch to real-time captioning, if available, so that the caption display matches the audio.
