Off-line Captioning
Software
While the process of creating off-line captions is essentially the same worldwide, the software used to do so varies greatly between caption agencies. In the United States, The Caption Center and the National Captioning Institute use software which was created in-house for exclusive use by those agencies. However, there are several types of off-line captioning software available to the general public at varying costs. In Europe, there are at least five commercially available subtitling workstation systems; some countries (the Netherlands and Belgium, for example) have developed their own subtitling systems.
